I love chocolate covered strawberries and wouldn't mind receiving or making a few for Valentine's Day, which is less than a month away. With this delicious dessert you can indulge without worrying about any health related side effects. A tiny amount of dark chocolate lowers cholesterol, according to a study published in a journal by the Journal of American Medical Association. Strawberries are rich in vitamin C, which is required to maintain daily health. Check out this delicious chocolate covered strawberry recipe from hersheys.com.
Things You'll Need:
- 2 Cups of Hershey’s Special Dark or Semi Sweet chocolate chips
- 2 tablespoons of shortening
- Ripe strawberries
- Tray
- Wax paper
- Microwave-safe bowl
- Cover your display tray with wax paper.
- Place both the chocolate chips and shortening into a microwave-safe bowl and set your microwave to 50 percent power. Melt for a minute and a half, or until you find that the chocolate chips have completly. Check to see if they have melted properly by stirring the mixture with a spoon. Notice the smoothness of the melted chocolate. Let the chocolate mixture cool slightly before you move on to the next step.
- Pick up a strawberry and dip 2/3 of the fruit into the chocolate and give it a slight twirl to make it has enough chocolate on it. Remove the strawberry and place onto your tray covered with wax paper. Repeat placing your strawberries in the chocolate until you have the amount you want to serve. This amount of chocolate will cover up to 5 dozen strawberries.
- Place the strawberries into your refrigerator for 30 minutes to firm up the chocolate.
- Store in a covered container, in your refrigerator, until you are ready to serve them.
Tip: Hershey recommends avoiding other types of butter and oils. The website states that the best method for making the chocolate part of the recipe is to use shortening.
